QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Voters in the Quincy Community School District will be asked next Tuesday to approve a proposal which renews building and site sinking fund millage that expires with the 2023 tax levy and restores millage lost as a result of the reduction required by the Michigan Constitution of 1963.
A sinking fund is a school revenue account approved by voters and designated for school building construction, renovation and repairs. Current state funding does not provide such funds.
District officials say this is not a new type of tax. The proposal request on Tuesday’s ballot renews and restores the building and sinking fund millage for four years. The sinking fund previously has been renewed by Quincy Voters for more than 20 years.
Funds have been used in the past for a Boiler Replacement and Upgrade Project, the replacement of the gym roof, resurfacing work and for the installation of new floors in several areas of the school.
