KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller is warning residents of yet another scam.
In this latest scam which is making the rounds, Sheriff Fuller says those behind it are calling victims and identifying themselves as law enforcement, claiming to have a warrant for the victim’s arrest because they didn’t show up for jury duty.
The scammers also attempt to collect financial information over the phone. According to Fuller, they then collect the debt and more with that information leaving victims in both a financial and identity mess.
Fuller goes onto remind the public that the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, nor any other law enforcement agency would not make phone calls or in-person visits if someone misses jury duty, unless it’s a reoccurring issue where the judge has already talked with the person, which in itself is a rare occasion.
He says however, that his office, along with others will send a letter in the mail in such cases.
