BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal baseball team improved to 10-10 overall and 5-1 in the Interstate 8 as they swept a doubleheader Wednesday at Pennfield.
In the opener, the Cardinals scored all their runs in the seventh inning to pick up a 4-2 win. Garrett Johns, the third pitcher used in the game, earned the win as starter Cole Heinemann struck out 8 while allowing both Pennfield runs on 2 hits.
Cole Heinemann’s triple in the fifth inning of the nightcap brought home Drake Thornton and snapped a 1-1 tie as Coldwater prevailed 3-1. Cam Heinemann was the winning pitcher, allowing an unearned run on 2 hits with 5 walks and 10 strikeouts in 5-2/3 innings of work, while Garrett Johns got the save. Cam Heinemann helped his own cause with two doubles and a single.
