CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) — A Sturgis man who entered no contest pleas to murdering and mutilating his girlfriend was sentenced on Thursday afternoon in St. Joseph County 45th Circuit Court.
39-year-old Wade Allen was ordered to serve between 37-and-a-half to 60 years in prison in connection to the death of Kelly Jean Warner in May of 2019.
Allen submitted no contest pleas back in January to charges of second degree homicide, attempted dismemberment and mutilation and attempted third degree criminal sexual conduct.
He got a concurrent two to five year sentence on the attempted dismemberment and mutilation count and a consecutive 38 month to five year sentence on the C.S.C. charge. Allen was given credit for 1,470 days already served.
Allen was arrested on May 22nd, 2019, after Sturgis police officers responded to a tip that he murdered and dismembered his girlfriend. In searching Allen’s apartment, officers located the mutilated remains of Allen’s girlfriend being stored in two coolers.
Officials say while in jail, Allen spoke to his cellmates about having strangled his girlfriend to the point of death. After finding out that the cellmates had passed this information onto the authorities, Allen is said to have sexually assaulted one of the inmates when they were re-housed together.
The case was prosecuted by the Michigan Attorney General’s Office with assistance from the Sturgis Department of Public Safety, the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department and the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office.
