PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Michigan State Police say the opioid problem in the state is not slowing down.
They say in 2021, Michigan saw just over 3,000 overdose deaths with that number holding steady through 2022.
With 2023 shaping up to be another difficult year, the MSP Paw Paw Post is looking for volunteers for its Angel Program. MSP officials say the program allows people struggling with addiction to walk into any post and ask for help without fear of arrest or investigation.
They go onto say that Angel volunteers will assist police in locating the appropriate treatment option along with transporting the participant to a treatment center.
Supported by the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative, the program is set to conduct training for new volunteers this summer, who will be reimbursed for mileage and meal expenses.
