LANSING MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Motorists beware…Michigan’s hands-free law goes into effect this Friday.
The state joins a growing list of states that have enacted the law, which is designed to reduce the amount of distracted driving accidents and fatalities.
Starting June 30, drivers will not be allowed to manually use their devices to text, make or answer phone calls, change a song, or adjust their GPS.
The latest data from Michigan State Police shows there were 16,543 distracted driving crashes in Michigan in 2021, 59 of which were deadly.
Authorities say that, if one looks at his/her phone for five seconds while traveling at 55 mph, their vehicle will travel the length of a football field.
