BATTLE CREEK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The largest combined air show and balloon festival in the country is back in Battle Creek for the July 4 holiday weekend.
The Battle Creek Field of Flight Air Show and Balloon Festival begins Thursday, with gates opening at 4:00 p.m. and festivities beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Battle Creek Executive Airport. The event wraps up Tuesday, July 4.
Weather permitting, there will be twice-daily balloon launches with competitors from around the country.
There will also be air show events all five days of the show, in addition to a carnival, music, and specialty entertainment.
Fireworks displays are scheduled for July 1 and July 4.
Last year’s show was marred by the death of 40-year-old Chris Darnell, who was killed July 2, 2022 when his SHOCKWAVE Jet Truck exploded while racing aircraft as a part of the Air Show demonstration.
