KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers are investigating after a pedestrian was hit and killed by an Amtrak train Monday morning, July 10.
Authorities say it happened a few minutes before 10 a.m. between Drake Road and Howard Street in Kalamazoo’s Knollwood neighborhood.
According to Amtrak, Wolverine Train 351 stopped at 9:52 a.m. due to a “trespasser incident.” As a result, two other trains, Wolverine Train 350 and Blue Water Train 365, also stopped, but started moving again around 1:30 p.m.
The Wolverine Train 351 heading toward Chicago, started moving again at about 2:10 p.m.
Although that train was delayed by 4 hours and 45 minutes, an Amtrak spokesperson said there were no other injuries to customers or crew and that a medical examiner was called to the scene.
The pedestrian’s name was not released at the time of this report.
