BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy says the City of Bronson has been awarded a $234,000 grant that would help the city identify any possible PFAS contamination.
City Manager Brandon Mersman said in May when the City Council voted to pursue the EGLE grant that it would cover wastewater collection system sampling for PFAS.
It would also cover seasonal impacts on sanitary sewer PFAS concentrations and identify sources including the wastewater treatment plant. Flow at source sites would also be monitored under terms of the grant.
The City of Bronson would not be required to provide a match.
Mike Schwartz from the engineering firm of Prien and Newhoff said in May most of the grant will cover sampling.
Bronson along with Rockford and Cedar Springs are the communities that will be getting the PFAS grants through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
EGLE recently announced them as $11.7 million in Michigan Clean Water grants were awarded.
There have been no reports of any PFAS contamination issues in Branch County or the other counties served by the Community Health Agency.
