BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The suspect in this weekend’s double homicide in St. Joseph County had a criminal record in Branch County and court records indicate he violated terms of his probation this summer.
According to Branch County Circuit Court on line records, 30 year old David Algarin, Junior was given a one year jail sentence and placed on probation of two years in October of 2021 after he entered guilty pleas to charges of aggravated domestic violence and interfering with electronic communications.
He then entered a guilty plea to violating terms of his probation on June 13, 2023 and was given a 30 day jail sentence with five days credit for time already served.
Algarin was also ordered to wear an electronic monitor for 30 days after his release from jail and a no contact order was issued on behalf of the female victim in the probation violation case.
Algarin was killed Sunday near the St. Joseph-Branch County line in what was called a police action shooting following an investigation into a pair of homicides near Sturgis which took place on Saturday night.
