UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City School Board of Trustees approved three bids Monday night as the renovation project at Alumni Field continues.
The largest bid was just under $484,000 for the construction of the restroom building which was about $140,000 over budget.
Superintendent Chris Katz said they only had one bid after a second potential bidder backed out.
Also approved were bids of about $197,000 for the purchase of aluminum bleachers and about $110,000 for underground utilities.
Katz said despite the larger than expected restroom building bid, the project overall is still in the black.
It’s hoped the renovated facility which will include new bleachers will be ready for the track season in the spring.
Temporary bleachers and restrooms will have to be brought in for the Union City home football games this fall.
Union City Community School District voters approved a sinking fund millage renewal proposal in August of 2021 which provided a portion of the funding for the replacement of the bleachers as well as for other projects in the district.
