Alan was preceded in death by his parents and five half-brothers and one half-sister.
Alan was a dedicated employee at Quality Springs Togo, Coldwater, for forty years retiring in 2004. He was a true outdoorsman growing up on his parent’s farm in Athens that is still in the family to this day. He loved telling so many stories from his youth on the farm being raised with older siblings and all his wonderful experiences, which were many.
As an adult, family and friends enjoyed camping back in “The Pines” on the property with many more memories that he cherished. He loved reading American history, hunting, fishing, canoeing, guns and having campfires with family.
Alan’s serious hobby was engraving guns. Self-taught and using only a hammer and chisel he created beautiful scrollwork and inlaid hunting scenes, going to gun shows across the country with best friends. His work was sought after by many. He was also known as being generous with his work by gifting people beautiful items he created including handmade knives.
He loved animals and especially his pet dogs. He loved his cowboy boots. He loved riding his motorcycle and the times he traveled with Brent going out west on trips meeting all kinds of wonderful people. He actually traveled to the Northwest Territory going as far north as the road will take you receiving a certificate at the end of the road.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Humane Society of Branch County.
