COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team improved to 2-0 in the Interstate 8 Conference with a 5-2 win over Hastings Thursday.
It was the annual Purple Game for the Cardinals, saluting cancer survivors and honoring those who have died from the disease. Coldwater players wore special purple socks for the game.
Arif Ahmed scored the first of his three goals less than two minutes into the game, assisted by Austin Accardi. Just over two minutes later Hisham Ahmed scored, assisted by Laith Musa.
Tammum Ahmed scored with 30:30 left in the first half on a header off a corner kick from Accardi.
Arif Ahmed closed out the first half scoring with 18:59 to play, assisted by Monther Hossain, and then headed in a throw-in from Niko Downs with 12:53 in the half.
Hastings scored off a corner kick with 24:48 to play in the second half to make it 5-1, then scored on a penalty kick with 1:07 to play in the game for the final margin.
Franky Ramos made one save in the first half, while Mohamed Alammari had one in the second half, as Coldwater outshot Hastings 21-6.
The Cardinals improve to 6-4 overall and will host Division 2 tenth ranked Sturgis Saturday for their annual Cultural Understanding games. The JV will play at 10:30 a.m., followed by the varsity at 12 noon.
