COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater High School boys varsity soccer team improved to 4-0 in the Interstate 8 Conference Tuesday night with an 8-0 mercy rule victory over Jackson Northwest.
The win keeps the Cardinals tied with Parma Western for first place with two league games remaining.
Coldwater’s Arif Ahmed started the scoring less than two minutes into the game on a penalty kick. That was followed by the first of two goals from Laith Musa, coming with 36:24 to play in the first half, assisted by Tammum Ahmed. His twin brother Ghaith scored two minutes later, assisted by Ezaldeen Ahmed.
Laith Musa scored again with 31:01 to play in the half, assisted by Ghaith Musa. Tuesday was also the birthday for the two brothers.
Arif Ahmed scored again with 16:05 left in the first half, assisted by Mohammed Abdullah. Tammum Ahmed scored at the 14:47 mark on a header off a long throw-in from Niko Downs, while Rashed Ahmed rounded out the first half scoring with 2:54 to play, assisted by Liam Clark.
After taking a 7-0 halftime lead, Hisham Ahmed scored the final goal with 31:03 to play in the second half, on another throw-in assist from Niko Downs, as the game ended on the eight goal mercy rule.
Franky Ramos made two saves as the Cardinals earned their second straight shutout. For the night they outshot Northwest 21-2.
Coldwater is now 9-5-1 on the season, and they will host Harper Creek for Senior Night Thursday.
The Coldwater junior varsity team beat Jackson Northwest 3-1 on goals from Essam Ahmed, Amer Ahmed, and Nasser Abdullah. Alex Martinez made two saves in goal.
