LANSING, MI (WKZO/WHTC) – Although both the state House and state Senate are back in session on Tuesday, the holiday season may come a little sooner than normal for lawmakers in Lansing.
When legislators adjourn for the firearm deer hunting season on November 15th, followed closely by Thanksgiving eight days later, they may not be back until after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, in order for majority Democrats to get Michigan’s Presidential Preference Primary moved up to February 27th, a week earlier than initially scheduled. Third-term minority Republican Representative Luke Meerman of Coopersville admits to mixed feelings on this.
An earlier Presidential Primary in Michigan would violate Republican National Committee rules and could cost the state GOP delegates in next summer’s national convention.
