BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – In addition to Coldwater’s shutout loss to Harper Creek, Branch County’s other high school football teams lost on a rainy Friday the 13th.
Union City welcomed defending Division 8 champion Ottawa Lake Whiteford to Alumni Field, and the Bobcats came away with a 45-7 victory to stay undefeated on the season. Rick Austin had the only Charger score with a 23-yard TD run in the second quarter; he would finish with 10 net yards on 5 carries, while Dylon McDonald had 14 carries for 75 yards and Riley Laird added 74 yards on 13 carries to pace the ground game. Defensively, Owen Jackson had 9 solo tackles and 3 assists. Union City fell to 6-2 and will close out the regular season next week at Buchanan.
Petersburg Summerfield completed its tour of Big 8 schools with a 36-6 win at Quincy thanks to a 297-60 advantage in rushing yards. Noah Pearson ran for 82 yards on 17 carries and the Orioles’ only score. Brennen Allman was 13/23 passing for 138 yards; Ryan Kenpter and Joe Smith were the leading receivers, catching for 54 and 53 yards respectively. Ethan Copas and Max Barve each had 4 solo tackles and 3 assists. Quincy drops to 2-6 and will host Centreville next Friday in the season finale.
Bronson also fell to 2-6 as they lost an 8-6 decision to Sand Creek at Charles Hilton Field. The Vikings will travel to Kalamazoo next week to face Loy Norrix. Reading improved to 2-6 with a 32-20 win against Erie Mason. And Springport was walloped at Addison 84-26.
In 8-player football, Tekonsha improved to 3-5 with a 24-12 win at Athens.
