COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – On a rainy night at Cardinal Field, Harper Creek collected 457 yards of total offense, including 381 on the ground, as they recorded a 54-0 shutout against the host Cardinals on Senior Night.
Beaver running back Bronson Carpenter, fresh off breaking two school records the previous week, had 18 carries for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns just in the first half as Harper Creek took a 31-0 lead to the halftime break. He would not touch the ball for the rest of the night.
Things went from bad to worse for Cardinal fans early in the third quarter. In the span of around four minutes:
- The Beavers scored on the first play from scrimmage from 68 yards out.
- Coldwater’s opening possession ended when Naseem Taha was tackled in the end zone for a safety.
- Harper Creek scored again with help from a short field following the ensuing free kick.
The Cardinals were held to 52 rushing yards, 163 overall. They fell to 0-8 overall, 0-5 in the Interstate 8, and will finish the season next week at Parma Western.
Harper Creek improved to 6-2 overall and finished league play at 4-2. They will take on former I-8 rival Jackson Lumen Christi next Saturday at Ford Field as part of the Detroit Catholic League’s annual Prep Bowl.
