BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Freshman Volleyball team won the silver division of the Interstate 8 Tournament at Hastings on Saturday.
The Lady Cardinals opened the day by beating Hastings by the scores of 25-15, 26-24, 15-8. The Cardinals followed up the win by beating Jackson Northwest 25-21, 25-21. Both wins avenged losses in league action earlier this year.
Leading the team with kills was Miyah Moore, Julianna Cowles, and Khloe Tyler with 3 kills a piece. Breanna Smith, Makenzie Rinard, and Isabella Angevine also had kills on the day.
Leading the team in aces was Khloe Tyler with 7. Also with aces on the day were Aubrey Walkup with 4, Julianna Cowles with 4, Isabella Angevine 3, Kaylee King with 3, Breanna Smith with 2, and Kaesyn Butler and Makenzie Rinard each with 1.
The Coldwater Freshman team now has a season record of 7-20-5. They will end their season on Wednesday at Parma Western.
In middle school volleyball on Saturday, the Legg Middle School 7th grade A Volleyball team played in the Portage Central Tournament and lost to Kalamazoo Premier School in the Semi-Finals. In pool play Coldwater defeated Vicksburg and Otsego and split with Portage Central. Coldwater defeated Portage Northern in the quarter finals before losing to Kalamazoo Premier. On the day Coldwater had a great day at the service line serving at a 80% mark and were lead by Addy Bucklin 35-39 with 15 aces, Avrey Qualls 40-43 with 7 aces, Kirah Sloan 27-31 with 5 aces, McKenzie Miller 20-25 with 5 aces, Hadley Schabloski 17-22 with 2 aces, Claire Paul 15-18 with 4 aces, Onysti Mitchell 2-3 and Elliette Vanwagner 1-1. Addy Bucklin had 8 digs to lead Coldwater followed by Miller, Qualls and Schabloski 6 digs each, Julia Trojanowski had 4 digs, Paul, Mitchell and VanWagner each had 3 digs and Sloan had 2 digs. Hadley Schabloski lead Coldwater with 11 kills followed by Bucklin with 10, Qualls had 7, Sloan and Miller had 4 each, with Trojanowski and VanWagner 1 kill each. Coldwater ends there season with a record of 10-9-1.
Both of the Quincy Middle School volleyball teams captured Big 8 Conference championships on Saturday. The 8th grade squad was seeded fifth after going 3-3 in pool play. They then defeated Hillsdale, Union City and Reading to claim the championship, winning all of the best-of-three matches in two games.
The 7th grade team won all six games in their pool which made them the number one seed for bracket play. They then defeated Maple Valley, Union City and Hillsdale Academy to win the championship.
