JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Three runners from Branch County qualified for the M.H.S.A.A. Division Three girls cross country state finals during Friday’s regional meet at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson.
Ava Hathaway and Ashlynn Harris from Bronson along with Kendyl Musielewicz from Quincy all punched their tickets for next Saturday’s state finals at Michigan International Speedway as they finished in the top 15.
Hathaway was third with a time of 19:29. Harris finished fifth with a time of 19:49.1. They are both underclassmen. Hathaway is a junior while Harris is a sophomore. Bronson’s Lydia Wells was 32nd.
Musielewicz’s time was 21:32.5 as she finished 12th. She was the second highest finishing freshman.
Quincy senior Sadie Miller was 22nd and missed qualifying for the state finals by one place. Her teammate Isabelle Marske had a new PR. Several of the top Quincy runners were unable to compete due to injuries and illness.
Jackson Lumen Christi, Hanover-Horton and Onsted moved onto the state finals as they were the top three teams in the girls regional. Bronson finished fifth with 165 points while Quincy was eighth with 200 points.
No Branch County boys managed to qualify for the state finals in Friday’s regional. Bronson finished eighth with 209 points while Quincy was 14th with 392 points. Jonesville, Jackson Lumen Christi and Hanover-Horton were the top three finishers and advanced as teams to M.I.S..
Tyler Wilber was the top finisher for Bronson as he was 31st. Dominic Kiomento was 40th while Kamron Brackett was 41st and Drew Norton was 46th.
Quincy’s top finisher was Chayse Jensen as he was 48th. Nathan Richer was 82nd while Michael Payne was 84th and Coy Wood was 92nd.
