COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater has launched an public awareness campaign in an effort to inform residents what they should not be flushing down the toilet.
The campaign is called, “No Wipes in the Pipes” and it explains the difference between disposable wipes and flushable wipes.
Certain items do not break down easily, causing blockages that can take years to disintegrate and damage to sewer systems. The only thing that should be flushed is toilet paper.
Residents are asked to refrain from flushing the following items to keep city sewer systems running smoothly:
Cleaning or baby wipes
Paper or plastic bags
Cloth towels or rags
Hygiene products
Bandages
Grease
Cigarette butts
Prescription drugs
Dental floss
Paper towels
Disposing of items in a toilet might seem convenient, but it can lead to severe issues within the sewer systems.
Proper disposal of these items in the trash, rather than flushing them, will help protect sewers and lower the risk of blockages.
