COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities has been informed by their Wi-Fi management system at Plume that a data breach occurred through a third-party service.
The service is used to analyze user and application technical events for select mobile and browser apps.
During Plume’s investigation into the incident, Plume identified that there was no evidence of a breach of the Plume APP but they notified the CBPU that 200 customers have been impacted.
The CBPU said in a statement on the city’s website that if you are an APP user, your name along with your email address, and city have been identified as being compromised. No financial information has been leaked.
The CBPU apologizes for the breach in the third-party service associated with Plume’s APP and they said they are committed to ensuring data privacy for their customers. They also have no reason to believe the issue affects customer’s network services or extends beyond the identified third-party services.
Due to the fact that names and email addresses were compromised, the CBPU is encouraging you to be cautious as you interact digitally.
If you receive a suspicious email, do not click on it. Instead, contact the CBPU’s Helpdesk at (517) 278-9276.
