KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A suspected of at least three separate acts of vandalism/graffiti involving hate speech in downtown Kalamazoo last month has been arrested in Arizona.
According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, the FBI coordinated with other law enforcement agencies in Arizona, leading to the arrest of 27-year-old Jaifeng Chen on an unrelated charge. Chen, who is a Chinese national, is currently in federal custody.
KDPS says the investigation into the incidents that occurred in Kalamazoo are ongoing. Once complete, the investigation will be forwarded to the appropriate authority seeking charges.
The multiple incidents of vandalism to include hateful speech being spray painted in the surrounding downtown area. Video surveillance showed a man spray-painting swastikas on a wall and on Chanukah decorations outside of the Chabad of Kalamazoo, with other spray-painting of racist graffiti around Kalamazoo Valley Community College’s Arcadia Commons campus.
