KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The message boards along Interstate 94 in southwest Michigan now have upgrades that will allow the Michigan Department of Transportation to use special graphics to warn drivers of issues.
There are 14 signs along I-94 over 33 miles between Berrien and Kalamazoo counties and MDOT spokesman Nick Schirripa says it is the stretch that gets the most frequent and severe winter weather events.
He says they will put up graphics for an advisory speed limit and the upgrades are a result of the 193-vehicle pileup in January 2015 between Kalamazoo and Battle Creek.
Schirripa says they are looking at adding the technology to other highways in the state.
