COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals welcomed the Western Panthers to the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium Thursday for the final basketball games before Christmas Break and earned a split of the two games.
The Lady Cards came from behind to beat the Panthers in the opener 38-30. Western led 11-8 after the first quarter and 19-16 at halftime, but Coldwater dominated in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 22-11.
Rylie VanAken led all scorers with 12 points, while Elli Foley and Mya Porter had 10 points apiece. Foley also had 7 rebounds and 3 assists, while Porter added 8 boards and 3 steals.
Coldwater’s record improves to 5-1 overall, 2-1 in the Interstate 8. Their next action will be against Grand Rapids Northview next Thursday, December 28, at the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament in Grand Rapids.

In the nightcap, the Panther boys pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Cardinals 31-22, to earn a 60-46 win and stay undefeated in league play. Western led 15-14 after the first quarter and 29-24 at halftime.
Jackson Reilly had a career-high 14 points and 3 rebounds to pace Coldwater. Gavin Taylor added 9 points, Zach Coffing had 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Ayden Dirschell finished with 7 points and 9 boards.
The Cardinals dropped to 2-6 overall, 2-1 in the Interstate 8, and will take on Jenison next Thursday, December 28, at the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament.
