Timothy Scott Granger, 60, of Union City, passed away on January 1, 2024 at his home.
Per Tim’s request, there be no funeral service at this time. Tim wanted to have a Celebration of Life with all his family, friends and foes (to be scheduled this summer) where we can enjoy reminiscing his life.
Cremation services were provided by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation.
Tim was born to Thomas S. and Marilyn (May) Granger on January 15, 1963, in Coldwater. Tim moved to Union City in 1970, where he grew up on Adolph Road and attended school in Union City. He graduated from high school in 1981 and went on to attend Kellogg Community College in the designing and woodworking program, joining the baseball program.
While in high school he lettered in football, basketball, track and his beloved baseball. Tim played on the American Legion baseball teams going to the National tournament in 1981.
Tim succumbed to injuries received in a tragic auto accident on October 22, 1982, which left him a ventilator dependent quadriplegic.
Tim overcame this drastic change and went on to use his capabilities to accomplish great things in life for 41 years. After purchasing property and building his own home, he built, owned and operated the first self-storage business in Union City, fondly named the Village Lock Up. He recently built a second unit and was in the process of adding additional units.
Not to “sit” idle, he purchased lake property, built a cottage to his design with a woodburner as he loved to sit by the fire. He added a huge dock, purchased a pontoon and would go out on the lake in his wheelchair to enjoy the serenity of the water.
It is with great sadness he leaves behind to mourn his passing, his loving family, his mother, Marilyn Renner; his brothers, Dr. Larry (Jill) Granger of Fort Collins, CO, David Weber of Bronson, MI, Brian (Sylvia) Weber of Union City, MI; his sisters, LaDonna (Jack) Smith of Howell, MI, Lynne Granger of Athens, MI, Brenda (Bill) Christy, of Layton, UT, Susan (Greg) Rubley of Coldwater, MI, Marla Haylett of Allen, MI; his beloved companion, his dog Molly; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Tim was fortunate to have an extended family in Beth and Steve Hare and their children, Haley, Bradley, Logan, Jammie Hart, Stephanie Smith (sons, Ben and Connor), Kayla Arnold, and Jeff Renshaw who were devoted to his care and happiness while weathering the storms and sunshine in his life.
Greeting him in heaven are his father, Thomas S. Granger; his bonus fathers, Dale Weber, John Shiery, and Rod Renner (whom he called Dad); his brother Thomas E. Granger; his loving sister, Darlene Weber Foley; his faithful companions, his dogs, Skynerd and Joppy; and his paternal and maternal grandparents. We are sure by now, at least once, Tim has hollered “DRIVE THE BASELINE, DAR”.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Craig Foundation, 3425 S. Clarkson St., Englewood, CO 80113, where Tim was taught to embrace life and how to accomplish what he could do.
