Judith “Judy” C. Smoker, 88, of Coldwater passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at LakeHouse Coldwater Assisted Living.
A celebration of Judy’s life will take place at a later date. Cremation has taken place, and a private burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
The family was cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home.
Judith was born September 26, 1935 to Willis and Wilma (Penick) Fifer in Salem Township, Indiana. She was a Bronson High School graduate. Judy married Ralph Burch and together they had two children, but they later divorced. September 1, 1979 she married Eugene “Dude” Smoker. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2023.
Judy worked for many years at Douglas Autotech in Bronson, retiring in 1995.
Judy was a woman of faith and long-time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed spending time reading, gardening, fishing, cooking, and taking walks. Judy will be remembered for her hardworking and thrifty lifestyle. She will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her.
Mrs. Smoker is survived by her children Deb (Mark) Lane and Jerry Burch all of Coldwater; her step-children children Christine (Dick) Cary of Bronson, Joan (Dave) Hurley of Bronson, Lu Ann (Doug) Nelson of Adrian, Pam (Dennis) Miller of LaGrange, IN, Ken (Ann) Smoker of Coldwater, and Mick Smoker of Bronson; her brother Willis “Bill” Fifer of Coldwater; her grandchildren Danielle Duke, Dustin Corwin, Nick Burch, and Corey Burch; her step-grandchildren Jennifer (Chris) Zepke, Betsy (Jeff) Feinberg, Lori (Eddie) Tabor, Kristopher (April) Hurley, Kelly (Thomas Hart) Hurley, Dana (Joel) Eisinger, Grant Nelson, Matthew (Skye) Miller, Katelyn (Brett) Yoder, Carlee (Sawyer Maddox) Smoker, Brent Smoker, Emilee Smoker, Tyler (Darcy) Smoker, Brooke (Mykal) Kline, his 32 great grandchildren and 6 great, great grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years Dude Smoker; her daughter-in-law Lonna Burch; her sister Joan Waite; her brother Alan Fifer; her sister-in-law Jan Fifer; and her step-son Kevin “Spanky” Smoker.
