David Walter Stevens, 72, of Burlington passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2024 after a long illness. He was at home with his family.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with a visitation prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation, 1276 Tate Trail, Union City, MI, 49094.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Riverside Cemetery in Union City.
David was born on July 12, 1951, to Elmer “Mike” and Betty (Walter) Stevens in Battle Creek. He was raised in Union City and spent his life in the area. He graduated from Union City High School with the Class of 1969.
March 24, 1979, David married Jodie Claar in Mendon, Michigan.
David attended Olivet College before transferring to Glen Oaks for trade school. He became a Journeyman Tool and Die Maker and worked at General Motors and then American Axle, where he retired from in 2008.
David enjoyed being outdoors, making yard shadows, and cutting wood. He especially loved hunting and fishing on the St. Joseph River with his grandfather. David was always working around his homestead. While not a man of many words, you could always count on him. He always made sure that everyone was taken care of and was always there for his family.
David is survived by his wife Jodie; daughter, Jessica (Darren Block) Heeringa; sons, David Stevens, Derek (Amy Kline) Stevens, and Daniel Stevens; grandchildren, Gage (Rory Laitila) Heeringa, Madison Heeringa, Kaitlin Heeringa, Tristan Stevens, and Oliver Stevens; his sister, Patricia (Gilbert) Jones; his brother, James Stevens; brother-in-law, Earl McFadden; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Linda McFadden; stepmother, Luella Stevens; and stepbrother, Kenny Watson. He will be missed.
