COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – One of two suspects taken into a custody Friday afternoon after a pursuit involving a reported stolen vehicle was arraigned on Saturday in Branch County District Court.
30-year-old Stephanie Nikole Thyng of Bronson was formally charged with assaulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.
According to Branch County court documents, she was the passenger in the 2016 Toyota Tacoma which was reported stolen out of Clinton County.
When Branch County Sheriff’s Department deputies tried to pull the vehicle over near U.S. 12 and Michigan Avenue after the City of Coldwater’s new Automated License Plate Readers triggered an alert, the driver fled. Speeds were over 100 MPH during the pursuit which ended in a field near Nash and Garfield Roads, west of Coldwater.
A probable cause affidavit said Thyng ran from the vehicle and had to be tackled in some nearby woods by a Sheriff’s deputy. Her bond was set at $5,000. A probable cause hearing was set for February 8 with a preliminary exam scheduled for February 13,
The 40-year-old male driver from Indiana was arrested for Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting and Obstructing, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Possession of Methamphetamine, and warrants from Branch County and Lagrange County, Indiana. He is expected to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
