COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In front of a nearly full house at the Coach Floyd Eby Gymnasium, the Coldwater Cardinal basketball teams hosted the Marshall Redhawks on Hall of Fame Night, with the teams splitting their games.
Marshall had Coldwater’s number defensively as the Redhawks beat the Lady Cardinals 42-36. Coldwater was held to 25.5% shooting from the field, including 3-for-14 from the three-point line.
Mya Porter and Coley Burkhardt had 10 points apiece; Porter also had 4 rebounds, while Burkhardt added 9 boards and 2 steals.
With the loss, Coldwater dropped to 13-3 overall; their 5-3 record in the Interstate 8 ties them with Marshall and Parma Western for second place in the league, three games behind Jackson Northwest. The Cardinals will host the Mounties Tuesday night.

Coldwater’s boys needed overtime to hold off Marshall 49-46. The Redhawks led most of the night, but the Cardinals used a 14-5 fourth quarter to tie the game at 41-41 and force the extra period, where the Cardinals had an 8-5 edge. Austin Burns almost sent the game to a second OT period, but his half-court shot at the buzzer bounced off the rim.
Niko Downs and Gavin Taylor had 12 points apiece; Taylor also went 8-for-8 from the free throw line, while Downs added 2 assists and 2 steals. Zach Coffing had 8 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Ayden Dirschell and Austin Downs both had 6 points and 6 boards, with Downs dishing 3 assists.
With the win, the Cardinals improved to 5-12 overall, 4-4 in the Interstate 8, which ties them for third in the conference with the Redhawks. Coldwater will travel to Jackson Northwest on Tuesday.

Throughout the evening, the Coldwater High School Athletic Hall of Fame welcomed its 2024 induction class.
