UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – Union City’s Jason Counterman has been named the Big 8 Conference wrestling Coach of the Year.
He received the honor at last Saturday’s Big 8 Conference meet in Reading.
Counterman was voted as the conference Coach of the Year for the third time in his six seasons at the helm of the Charger wrestling program by the conference coaches.
The Chargers won the Big 8 title and are ranked third in Division Four by Michigan Grappler.
Bronson finished second in the conference and are ranked fifth in Division Four in the same poll.
A showdown between the two local wrestling power houses will take place Wednesday night at the Division Four District Tournament in Bronson.
Tekonsha has opted out of the team district event so Bronson will wrestle Union City for the district title at 6:00 p.m. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m.. Tickets can be purchased on line www.gofan.com/event.
