Richard Lee Bennett, 87, of Union City, went to be with his Savior on Monday, February 5, 2024.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no services will be held.
Richard was born on December 22, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Robert G. and Helen (O’Donnell) Bennett. He attended Union City High School and graduated with the Class of 1968. He grew up in Union City, worked in Battle Creek, and lived in Quincy, before moving back to Union City. Richard married Nellie Taylor, on March 25, 1970, in Quincy. He was employed by Clark Equipment in Battle Creek, building lift trucks. Richard enjoyed fishing, camping with his kids and grandkids, stock and sprint car racing, hunting, and welding.
In addition to his wife, Nellie, he is survived by his daughter, Brandy (Tony) Baker of Battle Creek; his stepdaughters, Debi (Greg) Spahiev of Ft. Wayne, IN and Julie (Tom) Meyers of Greensboro, GA; his grandchildren, Darren (Brittney) Turnpaugh, Simia Spahiev, Brittney (Niles) Barnett), Jordynn (Michael) Riddell, Daniel Baker, and Carrie (Bryan); his great-grandchildren, Whitley Baldwin, L.J. Pierman, Bailey Barnett, Niko Barnett, and Lochlan Riddell; his siblings, Larry (Sandy) Bennett of Marshall, JoAnn Eldridge of Battle Creek, and Patricia Sperti of Lansing; his many nieces and nephews; and his much loved and treasured niece, Debbie Supnet of Modesto, CA.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, Tony Turnpaugh; his brothers, Robert “Bobby” Bennett and Leon Bennett and his stepson, Curtis Kelley; and his very close friend of the family, Sheryl Putnam.
