GILEAD TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A Monday morning house fire at 293 West Southern Road near Steffey Road resulted in nearly $75,000 worth of damages and one civilian being transported by Lifecare Ambulance for smoke inhalation.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says the fire was reported at about 7:30 a.m..
Flames and smoke were visible from the roof of a large single story residential structure when Bronson firefighters arrived.
One non-ambulatory occupant was removed from the structure by family members prior to the fire departments arrival.
Wilber says family members were also spraying water into the attic on the fire with a garden hose.
Fire crews were able to get into the attic by pulling down drywall. They managed to put out the fire which was above three rooms in the house.
There were oxygen tanks in the home but they had no bearing on the fire as it was limited to the attic.
The Lakeland and Orland, Indiana Fire Departments both provided tanker trucks.
Firefighters were on the scene for 2 1/2 hours and used around 1,750 gallons of water to extinguish the blaze.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire was reported to be electrical in nature.
