COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Union City man has been charged with two weapons counts by Branch County Prosecutors following a shooting incident at his home in the 100 block of Sullivan Road on November 4, 2023.
Following an investigation by the Michigan State Police, Gerald Lynn Kellenberger is facing charges of careless discharge of a weapon causing injury or death and discharging a firearm while aimed, without malice but with injury.
When they arrived, State Police Troopers discovered a man who was shot on the front steps of the residence with blood filling his mouth. He was flown by Air Care to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where he was treated for critical injuries.
According to court documents, Kellenberger told troopers the gun used in the shooting was a .22 caliber rifle. He claimed he believed the firearm he was showing to the alleged shooting victim was unloaded.
The alleged shooting victim suffered numerous injuries to his face, including a fractured jaw, and was put in a medically induced coma for some time. He is missing part of his jaw and teeth.
He was interviewed by the State Police once his condition stabilized.
