KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Firefighters say no one was hurt in a fire at the Days Inn and Suites near the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport Sunday afternoon.
Kalamazoo Public Safety was called to the hotel just before 2 p.m. and Lieutenant Jason Hendrick says black smoke was seen for several miles.
He says one man jumped to safety from a second floor window before crews could get to him and he was not injured.
It took about 90 minutes to get the fire under control.

My wife and I were there in room 239 we got there Saturday morning. We couldn’t find a room available so we supposedly took the days inns last room.. We were sleeping when I woke up and the room was filled with smoke the stairs and atrium was black and filled with smoke. The only way out was to force the window open, I tied bed sheets together and lowered my wife down that is recovering from cancer she had to drop about 10 feet. Once I seen that she was safe I had to jump from the window. We heard no alarms or anyone trying to warn us. This was a very terrifying experience for my wife and I we are both nearing 60 and very fortunate to be alive. We didn’t even get so much as an apology from management..
