COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Four Coldwater teenagers were injured Sunday evening after they were involved in a two vehicle crash on the west side of Coldwater.
The Coldwater Department of Public Safety says the crash happened at about 9:55 p.m. on U.S. 12 near Northshore Drive.
Police say four males who were 16 and 17 years old were heading west in a 2012 Honda Accord. The second vehicle involved was a 2017 Ford Escape which was also heading west and was being driven by a 18-year-old male from Coldwater.
According to witnesses, the Honda tried to make a U turn and was struck by the Ford. After the initial impact, the Honda struck the utility pole.
A rear seat passenger in the Honda was flown to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo where at last report, he was in stable condition.
The other three occupants of the Honda were taken to ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital where they were treated and released.
The driver of the Escape declined treatment at the scene.
The roads were wet at the time of the crash and the scene was illuminated by street lights.
The Michigan State Police assisted Coldwater Police with traffic control and a traffic crash reconstructionist.
The Coldwater Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance and the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities also assisted at the scene.
Coldwater B.P.U. crews had to work all night long in order to replace the damaged utility pole. They finally wrapped up their work around 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning.
