BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – The City of Bronson is moving forward with their plans to secure a state revolving loan for its Wastewater Collection System Infiltration and Inflow Removal project.
Bronson entered into an Administrative Consent Order with the State of Michigan in July of 2022, to address violations of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act due to excessive storm water flows which caused the Bronson Waste Water Treatment Plant to go over its design capacity by 500,000 gallons a day.
Bronson was issued a violation notice by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy in October 2019.
After a April 10 public hearing was held, EGLE issued their Finding of No Significant Impact and Environmental Assessment as well as a notice for 30 days public comment last Wednesday.
The purpose of the notice was to seek public input and comment on a preliminary decision by EGLE that an Environmental Impact Statement is not required.
The City of Bronson is applying for a 30-year low interest Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan of no more than $10 million to finance collection system improvements.
As a result of the project, a user rate increase of up to about $19 per month may be required.
Repairs are expected to take place sometime in 2025. Final plans from the engineering firm of Abonmarche are expected by the end of April.
