COLON, MI (WTVB) – Members of the Union City baseball team may have been late for prom activities but they decided to stay at the Colon Darmofal Tournament on Saturday afternoon and their decision paid off as they won the tournament championship.
The Chargers went 3-1 in the double elimination tournament with two of their wins coming against White Pigeon.
They defeated White Pigeon 8-2 and then lost to the Chiefs 10-8 which set up a winner take all contest which Union City won 19-2.
The Chargers also defeated the host Colon Magi 11-0. Union City is now 12-13.
Owen Jackson, Rick Austin and Alex Boyer were the winning pitchers.
Boyer homered in the first game against White Pigeon while Aidan Decker had two RBI’s.
Ryan Zweng had a double while Eli Payne and Carson Liles each drove in two runs against Colon.
Rick Austin had a double in the loss to White Pigeon.
Zweng doubled in the final game against the Chiefs while Jackson, Decker, Tucker Zweng and Austin all drove in two runs.
