COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Water service to the Tallgrass Community was shut off Monday afternoon after a car crashed into a fire hydrant and caused damage to the Tallgrass Community’s internal water system.
Brian Musselman from the Coldwater Board of Public Utilities told the Coldwater City Council on Monday night they were forced to shut off water services to the affected area.
After initially saying that the repairs to the hydrant and mandated water testing would take three days, the CBPU announced late Monday afternoon that the State of Michigan has allowed them to pressurize the system.
Water service was restored to the Tallgrass Community Monday evening, but residents of the affected area will be under a boil water advisory until further notice.
This does not affect any other CBPU customers.
The car that hit the hydrant then drove off before it was found broken down a short distance away by a Branch County Sheriff’s deputy.
Coldwater Police say the driver was cited for a misdemeanor traffic violation for leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
