QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – The Quincy Orioles swept a Big 8 Conference doubleheader from the Union City Chargers on Tuesday night but as has been the case throughout this soggy spring, Mother Nature refused to co-operate with Senior Night.
Quincy won the first game 11-2 thanks to their defense turning three double plays.
Kaylee Modert had two hits and scored twice. Payton Gross drove in two runs. Alyssa McCavit added two hits and scored twice while Josie Mescher singled twice and scored a run.
Exchange student Soraya Schork punched a line drive to centerfield to collect her first hit of the season. Deziray Skirka had two hits including a triple. Nakeisha Baker also had a triple.
Aislynn Phelps led had two hits including a triple for Union City.
The second game was shortened by rain with Quincy taking the 13-0 win. Gross was the winning pitcher as she threw a no hitter in the rain shortened game.
Modert had three hits including two triples and five RBIs, Mescher tripled in two runs and McCavit scored twice.
Quincy will host Hillsdale starting at 4:15 p.m. Thursday afternoon and will hold a ceremony after the doubleheader to honor their seniors.
Quincy is now 13-10 overall and 7-3 in the Big 8 Conference.
