COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinals girls softball team split their non-conference doubleheader with Hanover-Horton at the Rotary Softball Complex on Friday evening as they lost the first game 8-0 but came back to win the nightcap 11-7.
The Comets used a seven run third inning to win the first game. Coldwater could not get going offensively as they were held to four hits, two of them by Mya Porter.
The Cardinal bats came alive in the second game thanks to a 16 hit attack.
Rylie Van Aken belted a three run homer in the first inning to kick start the Cardinal offense. Coldwater scored four runs in the second to build their lead to 7-0.
The Cardinals eventually led 11-2 and had hold off a frantic Hanover-Horton rally in the seventh when the Comets scored five runs and had the tying run at the plate.
Maren DeBeau and Coley Burkhardt both had three hits. Kenzie Searing had two RBI’s. Porter was the winning pitcher with DeBeau getting the final out. Coldwater’s record is now 11-15.
