COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After meeting in a closed session for almost a half hour, the Coldwater City Council voted on Monday night to give City Manager Keith Baker a raise.
The Council approved a motion by Jim Knaack which was seconded by Chad Johnson.
(Baker’s annual salary would increase to $146,000 on July 1. He would also get a higher car allowance which would match that of new City Attorney Amanda O’Boyle.)
The closed session was held in order to conduct a periodic evaluation at Baker’s request.
After Mayor Tom Kramer gaveled the meeting to an end, Baker thanked the Council for their continued support.
Baker has been the Coldwater City Manager since April 1, 2017. Before that, he served as the Assistant City Manager under Jeff Budd.



City government voting each other salary increases leaves to a feeling of iimpropriety by the citizen’s of Coldwater. These decisions should be made by a referendum. The people of Coldwater should decide how much their city government officials should be paid.
