BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Wednesday is Juneteenth, the national holiday celebrating the end of slavery in the U.S..
It was on this day in 1865, more than two years after the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln when the last enslaved people in Texas finally found out they were free.
It became a federal holiday in 2021. Various federal and state government offices as well as banks and the U.S. Post Office will be closed for business on Wednesday.
All Branch County offices including the Branch County Courthouse are closed on Wednesday. Quincy Village Offices and Bronson City Hall are also closed.
