COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – New three year contracts with unions representing Coldwater police officers and firefighters are on the agenda for Monday’s Coldwater City Council meeting.
City Manager Keith Baker says in his memo to the Council that the proposed contract between the city and the International Association of Fire Fighters, Coldwater Local 2555 includes a nine percent salary increase for the first year along with three percent increases for the second year as well as for the third year of the contact. There are 13 employees currently in the bargaining unit.
The Council is also scheduled to vote on proposed agreements with the Police Officers Labor Council of Michigan and the Police Officers Association of Michigan which cover the Coldwater Police Department.
There are five employees covered by the agreement with the Police Officers Labor Council of Michigan while 14 employees are part of the Police Officers Association of Michigan.
Both of the police agreements includes a nine percent salary increase for the first year, 3-and-a-half percent for the second year and three percent for the third year of the contact.
All of the union police and fire employees will get a one-time payment of $1,000 upon ratification of the deals.
All of the contracts would be effective from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2027.
Our Police and Fire Fighters deserve to be given the raises they are asking for just like the city council members do that vote each other raises.
