STURGIS, MI (WTVB) – Two persons were taken into custody after a vehicle and foot pursuit took place on Sunday in Sturgis.
St. Joseph County Undersheriff Jason Bingaman says several deputies assisted the
Sturgis Police Department as they were pursuing a stolen vehicle. During the pursuit, an 18-year-old male driver pulled into a yard in the 400 block of Edka Street.
The driver and a 33-year-old female passenger from Sturgis fled on foot. Deputies quickly located the woman as she was trying to flee and arrested her.
They then found the driver walking on Michigan Street near Cottage Street but he ran when a deputy tried to stop him which led to a foot chase through several yards.
An perimeter was set up and an MSP K9 unit was called in to assist in the search. Police eventually found the driver as he was trying to hide in a backyard.
The female passenger was taken to the St. Joseph County Jail on felony drug charges and obstructing police.
The Sturgis Police Department is pursuing charges against the driver.
