COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In an effort to bridge the gap between local talent and local companies, area employers will have the opportunity to discover partnership opportunities with the OJT (On the Job Training) program at the Branch Area Career Center at a forum Thursday, July 18 at 12:00 p.m.
Hosted by the Branch County Economic Growth Alliance, a previous quarterly forum involved a discussion with the retiring OJT Coordinator which identified opportunities to better connect local employers to OJT and other work-based learning programs.
Incoming OJT Program Coordinator Joe Sobeske will facilitate the introduction of employers and the OJT program with the goal of later connecting students to those area companies for real-world career opportunities and skill development.
According to Sobeske, “OJT is a win-win. Hosting OJT students is a powerful piece of a business’s legacy. Many students start their careers by staying at their OJT placement and are valued team members years after graduation.”
“It’s important to connect Branch County employers to the Careers Center and encourage participation in the many work- based learning opportunities that the BACC offers”, said Audrey Tappenden, Executive Director of the Branch County Economic Growth Alliance.
She continued, “The programs not only build connections between local talent and local companies, but allow companies to influence educational programming and develop leadership skills among their staff who participate.”
The forum July 18 will be held at the Kellogg Community College Grahl Center at 125 Seeley Street with lunch provided.
Senior leadership and Human Resources talent from all local companies are welcome to attend the one-hour forum and are encouraged to RSVP by July 17 by contacting Audrey Tappenden at atappenden@coldwater.org.
Plans for the next forum are being made for October.
