LANSING, MI (WTVB) – The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity has awarded just under $15 million in grant funds to 187 fire and safety agencies across the state. These funds will be used to purchase an additional set of turnout gear for full-time career firefighters.
Locally, the City of Coldwater will receive $42,000.
In addition, Three Rivers will get over $41,000 while Marshall will get $35,000.
The additional set of gear consists of coat, pants, and boots. The additional gear allows full-time firefighters to be equipped with the latest personal protective gear on the market.
The gear will provide full-time firefighters with a clean set of gear to switch into after a fire, instead of waiting until the end of the shift to properly clean the gear, improving response time.
The funds are a component of the Fiscal Year 2024 State Budget enhancement grants administered by the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity.
