COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Branch County 9-1-1 dispatcher has been honored by the American Red Cross for her actions on May 17 when five persons including four occupants of an Amish two-wheel wagon were injured in two vehicle crash on South Ray Quincy Road near Campbell Road.
Jenni Foust has received the Red Cross Lifesavers Award which is a national recognition given to individuals who perform a lifesaving act using skills learned through Red Cross health and safety training.
Foust was off duty from 9-1-1 when she came upon the crash.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department said at the time that a southbound wagon was struck from behind by a 2016 Ford Escape driven by 63-year-old Jeanette Munson of Reading.
The buggy was occupied by two adult males and two juvenile males, all from Montgomery. All involved in the crash were injured.
Two occupants of the buggy were transported by Lifecare Ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Another juvenile from the buggy was air lifted by Survival Flight to University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Besides being a dispatcher, Foust was a medic for almost 20 years and she used her training to help the injured youngster until the medical helicopter arrived.
The accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Department.
