CENTREVILLE, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater and Union City cross country teams competed on Saturday at the Centreville Invitational.
The meet was divided into two races, one for ninth and tenth graders, the other for 11th and 12th graders.
The Union City boys were champions scoring 74 points ahead of second place Kalamazoo Hackett with 97 points.
Union City’s Ben Gautsche (16:49) was fourth, Jason Shoop (17:29) was eighth and Cohen Burdick (18:12) was 13th. Other Charger runners were Malachi Payne (18:33), Noah June (18:42), Cullen Decker (18:44), Aidan Taylor (19:20), Luke McKown (19:44), James Riel (20:28), Mason Hawthorne (21:58), Jack Dibert (23:19), Jonas Burdick (23:43), and Luke Arlt (25:05).
The Union City girls placed fourth with 111 points. Sturgis was first with 47 followed by Prairie Heights with 73 points and Kalamazoo Hackett was third with 87 points.
All Union City girls ran season bests. The Chargers were led by Skyler Fraley who was eighth and ran a personal best time of 20:19.
Alli Gautsche (20:54) was ninth while Alissa Skirka (22:30) was 22nd. Other Union City runners were Parker Williams (23:29), Elizabeth Arlt (23:43), Carly Smith (24:18), McKenzie Hawks (25:25), Olivia Wood (26:08), Jassi Kaur (27:30).
Both Coldwater teams finished third in the big division. The boys finished eighth overall while the girls were 10th.
Coldwater had seven medalists. Gwen Eby and Annika Johnson medaled in the 9/10 girls race as well as Luke Aerts, Drew Vanderpuyl, Sebastian Hernandez, Benny Travelbee, and Brenley Legg in the 9/10 boys race.
Miyah Moore, Olivia Golematis and Elizabeth Torres-Ojeda also scored for the Coldwater girls.
All 18 Coldwater runners had a season’s best with 15 running personal best times.
