The conventions are done,
They both were such fun,
Making promises and spewing forth lies.
New candidates were named,
Sadly, others remained
Too many lows, a few highs.
The campaign is ablaze,
A Trump-Harris race.
A new version of left versus right.
One hands out cash,
The other talks trash,
Such division, it’ll be quite a fight.
There’s a lot of vote-buying
With each candidate trying
To give something back for each vote.
Cash for new homes,
IVF for all moms
Maybe now you can buy that new boat.
Candidates flip-flopping
On issues they’re shopping
To find a hot button to leverage.
No taxes on tips
Abortion stand flips
Hey, please go get me a beverage.
Can democracy survive
Project twenty-five,
Is Trump really serious about it?
Calling Harris crude names,
Making vulgar, rude claims,
His base may rebel, but we doubt it.
So divided we stand,
The flames they are fanned
Since no one will listen to reason.
The left fears the right
And the right wants to fight
As each accuses the other of treason.
After all votes are cast
And the totals amassed
What comes next is up in the air.
If Trump wins, OK,
If it’s Harris, he’ll say
I’ll sue, cause nothing is fair.
Certification’s unclear
Because Congress we fear
Will find two members to challenge the vote.
Then the House will decide
Which side will preside
Disenfranchising voters we’ll note.
Or an insurrection you say
May be on the way
With the Capitol attacked by a throng.
It happened before
Some called it a tour,
Asserting that riots aren’t wrong?
So how do we solve,
Can the U.S. evolve
Back to transferring power in peace?
The world will look on
And pass judgment upon
Whether U.S. democracy will cease.
We hope for the best,
That we’ll pass the test
And that all will put country first,
It’s a tough ask
But a worthwhile task,
For our republic we should all have a thirst.
