BRANCH COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – The latest version of the U.S. Drought Monitor released on Thursday shows worsening conditions in the area.
Branch and St. Joseph Counties along with most of Hillsdale County are considered to be abnormally dry due to the lack of rainfall since early August.
Moderate drought conditions are reported in southern Hillsdale County.
Severe Drought and Moderate Drought are now reported in northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio.
National Weather Service forecasters say there are a few chances for rain in the coming days, but it will likely not be enough to improve the drought.
It has not rained in Branch County for almost two weeks and only about an inch rain has been measured since August 6.
There is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Friday night. The chances for rain improve to 40 percent on Sunday and Monday.
